IN MEMORY OF JILL "THE COOKIE LADY" HAMPTON

1968-2022

"I’m looking up to the heavens sending a big hello and hug Jill Hampton. This bike ride is in your memory. I can’t say I didn’t not get a bit choked up along the way. I know we all miss you down here."  Andy Sidwell

"You were the kindest, sweetest human I know. I’m thankful for our friendship and wish I had gotten to spend more time with you. I loved our chats about everything, sharing cat pics and the occasional bike ride we shared together. I’ll definitely miss your cookies and banana bread too! You fought so hard and never complained. You were a true inspiration. Wherever you have crossed over to I guarantee you are making friends and full of smiles.  Luis and I planted flowers for you this morning. You will forever be in our hearts and happy memories."  Jennifer and Luis Pedroza

"It’s hard to process the passing of my beloved friend Jill. I have so many amazing memories of sharing recipes and delivering food to each other - perks of being neighbors for nearly 3 years.  From homemade cider on full moon blackstar canyon rides, to cookies at OTH, custom blended spice jars (some of which I still have and use), and birthday parties at the Great Park. Thanks for everything, friend"  TJ Eller

"It's been a pleasure calling you my friend . You were a friend to so many   Cookie lady we will miss your smile, courage and energy  .So much of yourself that you gave to others . You trained and lived as hard as you fought this battle with cancer and in the end it stripped you from us.  I will miss the random crossings in the back Bay were we both trained .The short but meaningful conversations. YOU WILL be truly missed...RIP C.L  This world was a better place with you in it."  Augustine Gonzalez

"If there is a heaven it gained one hell of an Angel last night.  Rest in Peace Jill.  I hope you knew how much I loved you and our friendship.  You were an absolutely amazing person and I am going to miss you so much!"  Michael Huston

"I remember the day I met you when you showed up at Barrett and Mark's place.  Shortly after, you joined our R5ciclismo Cycling Club/Team that Mark and I were managing.  You were not interested in racing, but just wanted to improve your fitness and find a welcoming community to ride with. You showed up at the Saturday group rides offering to lead the newer riders in what was to be termed the "J" group.  You didn't want anyone to ever be left behind or feel unwelcome or out of place.  You had a big heart!  Every Saturday morning, you showed up with fresh baked cookies or muffins for the group ride, until the day you didn't.  A year ago, you were diagnosed with Stage 4 Cancer which sent a shock wave through our tight knit community.  You were determined to fight, and you did.  I cannot convey enough gratitude to Barrett Brauer for his devoted friendship being by your side every step of the way.  Life is not fair, and has taken one of the best people I have ever known.  You will be missed Cookie lady!"  Mila Allinson

"Jill and I shared many more special memories. She was always the one who would understand my humor, would be able to decipher my opaque sarcasm and still get the joke. We were on the same page about so many things. We clicked in so many ways, and we shared everything, and understood each other in ways others don't. I was there for her when she left her husband and struggled with it, letting her stay at our place. I was there for her when she struggled with the aftermath of a later painful living arrangement.  ...

And I tried to be there on every step on the journey that ended last  night. I'm grateful for it, from holding her hand in the emergency room before her emergency brain surgery to remove one of the bleeding lesions, to sitting in with her and her doctor while they discussed her prognosis and treatment, to the end stage where I had to give her a bear hug and lift her out of her bed and carry her to the commode so she could relieve herself.  My regrets were that I wasn't able to do more. She would have done the same for me.

I will cherish those memories."  Barrett Brauer
